A long line of descent from a Viking ancestor Ivar, Jarl of the Uplanders, through a Norman, Baldric de Lindesay, the tenacity of this distinguished Clan has been well written. This lowland Clan gained many landed possessions in the Lothians, Fife and Angus which has remained the traditional Lindsay Clan area. The Chief of the Clan for many generations has been the Earl of Crawford & Balcarres whose seat is Balcarres in Fife.
